Music and Money with ARRIVER

Chicago's Arriver arrives at Metalhead Money with brevity and a new album on the way... Check out their secrets to tour budgeting and much more below!

Tell our readers all about your band! Where are you from and when did you get started? What is your music like?

ARRIVER was born and raised in Chicago. Our music is sometimes described as post-doom, dark-prog.

What are your goals for your band?

To challenge ourselves and our audience. To write and record top notch music. Live, to rock people’s faces.

What do you do for a living?

We all have rewarding careers in non-music related fields. We have families and raise children.

How do you balance your work and personal life with the band?

It is important to make time for our music. It's not always easy. We are fortunate to have the love and support of our families.

What do you consider to be the best investment you've made, music-wise?

Practice.

What's the worst or least helpful thing you've ever spent money on as a musician/band?

Cynicism.

What kind of merch sells the best for your band? And what do you purchase most often as a music listener?

We have commissioned artists to design some of our shirts and posters. I will not hesitate to buy a shirt or a poster at a show that is well designed and well made. Can you share some tour budgeting tips?

Expect to lose money on tour. That way you will not be surprised when in fact, you lose money on tour.

Which online music or social media platforms are most helpful to your band?

We use bandcamp and Facebook. They’re fine. Probably in 5-10 years it will be something different.

What does "making it" mean to you, and what do you think a band needs to make it in 2022?

For us, “making it” is making our art. As such we just made our 4th full-length LP, AZIMUTH. That’s pretty fucking awesome.

Follow Arriver on bandcamp and be on the lookout for Azimuth, coming out March 4th, 2023!
